Joyce Ann (Cunningham) Thomas-Harris

Joyce Ann Thomas- Harris, 79, a resident of Toronto, OH went to be with The Lord peacefully in her sleep on Friday, February 10, 2017. Born August 31, 1937 in Jal , New Mexico.  Married to William Thomas, March 17, 1961 until his death in 1997.  She traveled extensively throughout the western part of the United States. A daughter of a rigger in the oil industry until making permanent residence in Empire, OH. She served as a lifelong assisted living health care provider to many elderly residence of Jefferson County, respected and admired by all she cared for. At age 47, she and her sister Billie obtained their GED from the Toronto Adult Education Program. She was extremely proud of her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved and cared deeply for her family and friends. She will be forever missed and respected for the life lessons she instilled in her children to be productive hard working adults.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl (Walters) Cunningham; first husband, William E. Thomas and second husband, Donald Harris; sisters, Imogene Metzler and Billie Payne and brother, Norman Cunningham.

She is survived by her sons, Everett Kevin Cunningham of Empire, OH and Thomas and Cathie Thomas of Toronto, OH; daughter, Diana Girgenti and fiancé Edward Smith of Chesapeake,VA;

nine grandchildren, Christina Murff, Wes Thomas, Hanna Thomas, Ciera Thomas, Sloane Rawson, Kendal Thomas, Landon Thomas, Ashton Thomas and Heath Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Blake William, Connor Michael, Emma Marie, Brantley Michael, Laekynn Renee and Kyla Rose.

Visitation hours for Joyce will be held 2-4 & 6-8  P.M. Tuesday, February 14th and from 10 – 11 A.M.  Wednesday, February 15th  at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH

A celebration service of Joyce’s life will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Reverend Tyler Bayliss officiating. Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.
