John Joseph Finney, 77, of Steubenville (Pleasant Hill) passed away on Saturday March 30, 2024 at UPMC in Pittsburgh. He was born on February 18, 1947 in Steubenville to the late Robert and Hilda Finney. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kay, and son, Sean. He is survived by his children Erica Finney, Josh Finney, Ryan (Lara) Finney, and Kassey (Michael) Minor; granddaughters Cameron Minor, Alexandra Minor, and Lydia Finney.
John and Kay married on June 25, 1971 and taught together at Knoxville elementary until he retired after 30 years. He and Kay dedicated their time to preserve the Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Historical Museum.
John was an amazing caretaker for his mother-in-law (Elizabeth Parrish), son (Sean) and wife (Kay). He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and in the 1990s, he enjoyed taking his family on trips to South Bend, Indiana to watch the Spring Blue/Gold game each year. His greatest joys were his wife, children, grandchildren, and his dog, Bailey. He loved telling jokes and acting goofy to entertain his three granddaughters. He found immense joy in hosting 'brunch' every Sunday, creating cherished memories with his granddaughters and sharing stories of their adventures; they were his everything.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Historical Museum at 151 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, OH 43953.
A memorial service for John will be held on Friday April 5, 2024 at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto, OH from 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Interment will be held at a later date at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville OH.
