Jacqueline Cummings Obituary

Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" (Brayley) Cummings of Toronto, OH, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the age of 85.  She was born March 11, 1932 in Hubbard, OH.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. Brayley in 1996 and Mildred E. (Saltsman) Brayley, in 1980; her devoted husband, Paul R. Cummings in 1990, whom she married November 13, 1954; and her husband's twin sister, Mary L. Cummings in 1997 of Oceanside, CA.

As a 1950 graduate of Toronto High School, many will remember Jackie as a waitress serving homemade frozen custard and burgers at the former Hut Restaurant on 3rd Street in Toronto, OH, owned by her parents. Jackie was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Toronto, OH.  She was an avid bowler who enjoyed traveling to tournaments, especially Las Vegas, with her friends and daughter Janice.  Jackie favored playing golf as her outdoor sport whether near home or on vacation.

Going to sporting events or watching sports on TV was a regular pass time for Jackie and her husband, often having two televisions on at the same time.  Since Paul was a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from WVU in 1950, Jackie joined in on supporting the school's sports teams.  Both Paul and Jackie were long-time passionate Steeler fans.

Jackie is survived by her daughters, Janice L. (Chuck) Devlin of Toronto, OH, and Patricia A. "Patti" (Greg) Cummings-Bishop of Annapolis, MD; four grandchildren, F.J. (Jewell) Vanihel of Greencastle, IN, Paul Ryan Vanihel of Rochester, NY, Jared C. Bishop Charlotte, NC (attending UNC Charlotte), and Danielle O. Bishop, of Annapolis, MD; 3 great-granchildren, Danton A. Glover, Alexis L. Vanihel, and Trevor L. Vanihel, all of Greencastle, IN; nephew, John R. (Elaine) Brayley of Hopedale, OH; sister-in-law Dorothy C. Cummings now living in Annapolis, MD; and her two beloved and spoiled cats, Tigger and Fat Cat.

Janice and Patti wish to express their gratitude to the IC Care Company caregivers for their friendship and kindness to their mother, and looking after Fat Cat and Tigger.  They also would like to thank the Charity Hospice staff for their guidance and attention to Jackie.

Visitation hours will be held from 2-4, and 6-8 on Friday, March 2nd at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto, OH.  A celebration service of Jackie's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3rd with Pastor Bob Benish officiating.  Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.

*Everyone is welcome to wear Jackie's favorite team apparel, Steelers and/or WVU, at the funeral home for visitation hours on Friday, and the funeral service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, Janice and Patti suggest a memorial donation in memory of Jackie be made to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, 200 Airport Road, Wintersville, OH, 43953
