John Martin Horkulic, age 54 of Steubenville, OH passed away suddenly at his home, Thursday,
November 8, 2018 . He was born February 5, 1964 in Steubenville, OH.
John had formerly attended the St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church of Toronto, OH; graduated from Steubenville High School in 1982; liked fishing, camping and video games; loved his cats. Football was a passion of his and he loved the Steelers.
He was a member of the Democratic party. He loved politics; was a staunch liberal Democrat and would debate anyone on any issue.
John retired from the U.S. Army having served his country in the following f assignments: former PSYOP Specialist 1SG Driver at Ft. Bragg Jumpmaster School Staff, Driver at the Army Special Operations Command, Special Weapons Assembler, NBC NCO, Drug and Alcohol Counselor and Cannon Crewmember at Ft. Sill, OK. John had served in Germany and Korea.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph M. Horkulic and Jacqueline V. (Tice) Horkulic and his brothers, Gail and David Grose.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Annette (Charles) Long of New Mexico; brothers, Joseph (Deborah Lynn) Horkulic, Jr. of Toronto, OH , and Jeffrey Stephen (Rebecca) Horkulic of Steubenville, OH. Growing up, John and Jeff were known as “chicken and fangs”. He was formerly married to Nicole Reinier of Elmwood, WI
A Requiem Divine Liturgy, with the Intention from his sister, Susan Long will be held 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 21st at the St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church, 814 N. fifth St., Toronto, OH with Celebrant the Reverend Father John Kapitan OFM.
According to John’s wishes, he was cremated and will be interred in the Toronto Union Cemetery next to his mother and father.
A graveside service for John will be held 11 A.M. Monday, November 26th at the Toronto Union Cemetery with Father John Kapitan OFM officiating and with military honors presented by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions in memory of John may be made to the St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church, 814 N. Fifth St., Toronto, OH or the Jefferson County Humane Society, 300 Airpark Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953.
John’s arrangements are in the care of the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.
