John Edmond “Moose” Swearingen, age 75 passed away March 12, 2017 at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH Sunday, March 12, 2017.

He was born August 15, 1941 in Steubenville, OH.

Moose was a lifetime member of the Steubenville Beagle Club where he served as president for many years; was a 1959 graduate of Toronto High School; was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan; served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and was retired from the Weirton Steel Company.

He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and loved his grandchildren.

Moose was preceded in death by his parents, Jack E. Swearingen in 1983and Anna (Kovarik) Swearingen in 1998; mother-in-law, Maxine Brannon; brother-in-law, Jack Brannon; niece, Lisa Gibson and nephew Charlie Vantilburg.

He is survived by his children, Katrinka (John) Valuska of Toronto, OH, Joe Swearingen of Toronto, OH and Casey (Ernie Mozingo) Swearingen of Richmond, OH; grandchildren, Jessica and Krystal Valuska, Samantha,  Sarah, Savannah, Dakota and Hannah Swearingen and Jackson Mozingo; sister, Sally (Frank) Schiraldi of Powell, OH; brothers, Charles “Chuck” (Diana) Swearingen of Toronto, OH and David (Judy) Swearingen of Toronto, OH; aunt, Jane Dobson of Toronto, OH and uncle, Jay (Aimee) Swearingen who was more of a brother to Moose of Toronto, OH. Several nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation hours for Moose will be held 2 -4 and 6-8 Thursday, March 16th and 3-5 Friday, March

17th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto, OH.

A Celebration service of Moose’s life will be held 5 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Raul Diaz officiating followed by Military Honors by the Toronto American Legion Chaplain.

In accordance with Moose’s wishes, he will be cremated.

Moose’s family wishes to thank Dr. Kalla and the Charity Hospice caregivers especially his two nurses, Taylor and Coral for the wonderful care they gave him.

Following Moose’s service family and friends are invited to a dinner at the Cornerstone Church, corner of Fifth and Clark Streets, Toronto.
