Lois Viola Johnston

Lois V. Johnston, age 89 of Toronto, (Sugar Grove) OH passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, September 18, 2019.

She was born August 6, 1930 in Stratton, OH the daughter of the late George Allen Johnston in 1992 and Dorothy Elizabeth (Nixon) Johnston in 1966.

Lois was a member, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, president of the United Methodist Women and had played the piano for 75 years at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church.

She served several years as a Knox Township clerk, had been employed for 42 years at the former G.C. Murphy Variety Store in Toronto, OH and was a 1948 graduate of Jefferson Union High School.

Besides her parents Lois was preceded in death by her uncles, William Johnston in 1975, Charles Johnston in 1977 and an aunt, Catherine Riggs in 1998.

Lois is survived by her brother, William T. Johnston of Calcutta, OH; niece, Vanessa (Robert) Davies of Calcutta, OH; nephew, William (Wendy) Johnston of Wooster, OH; great-nephew and nieces, Lindsey, Savannah, Nichols Johnston and Breanne (Peter) Kern.

Visitation hours for Lois will be held 5-8 PM Sunday, September 22nd at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH and from 10-11 AM Monday, September 23rd at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, County Road 68, Toronto, OH.

A celebration service honoring Lois’ life will be held 11 AM Monday at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor George Delo officiating. Interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Union Cemetery.
