William E. “Hank Sloane, age 100 , a Toronto, OH icon passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness Friday, September 8, 2017.

 

He was born in Toronto, OH March 23, 1917 to the late Charles and Helen Carnahan Sloane.

 

Hank was preceded in death by wife Juanita (Coughenour) Sloane in 1989; daughter, Paula in 1972; granddaughter, Amy Rawson and two infant grandchildren; sons-in-law, Sam Rawson, George Sunny Ingold and James Sommers; sisters, Majore Stephens and Edith Baker and sisters-in-law, Betty Erb and Mary Lyons .

 

He was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church of Toronto, OH; a graduate of Toronto High School in 1938 being the last of the 1938 Toronto High School football team. He was a great fan of Toronto High School Football and the Ohio State Buckeyes Football.

 

Hank was retired from Signode Corporation and was a farmer all his life known in this area for his tomatoes and sweet corn. And God Created a Farmer.

 

He was a member of the Toronto American Legion and the Toronto Fraternal Order of Eagles.

 

Survived by daughters, Helen Rawson, Charlene Green, Marlene Ingold and Christine Sommers; sons, James (Rosie), Bill (Debbie), Charlie, Paul (Mariah) and John Sloane; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

 

A special thank you to Betty Grimm, Charity Hospice, the third floor north at Trinity Medical Center West and the eighth floor at Trinity Medical Center East.

 

Hank was an ordinary man who did extra ordinary things and was known for his generosity.

 

Visitation hours for Hank will be held 1-4 and 6-9 Monday, September 11th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.

 

Hank’s service will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, September 12tth at the Clarke Funeral Home with the Reverend Thomas Vennitti officiating. Interment will follow at the Toronto, Union Cemetery.
