Albert Eugene "Albie" Tond, Sr., age 79 of Toronto, OH passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Valley Hospice Care Center, North, Steubenville, OH.
He was born April 23, 1935 in Steubenville, OH the son of the late Anthony and Laura (Bonifine) Tond.
Albert was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church of Toronto; had coached little league baseball for the Lions Club and Kaul Clay baseball teams; had attended Steubenville Catholic Central High School where he played football and had set the school record for the longest interception for a touchdown of 101 yards. He later attended Toronto High School.
His former employment included the former Larson Clay Company, the Weirton Steel Company, the construction of the New Cumberland locks and dam at Stratton, OH. He retired as a millwright from the Titanium Metals Corporation of Toronto having been employed there from 1960 to 1997.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; son, Albert Eugene Tond, Jr. May 21, 2002; six sisters and three brothers. Albert was the last death out of ten children.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Nease) Tond whom he married June 30, 1953 ; son, Barry (Marlena) Tond of Toronto, OH; granddaughters, Amanda (Ed) Thompson of Toronto, OH and Melanie (Daniel) Welsh of Bloomingdale, OH; great-grandsons, Patrick and Matthew Welsh.
Visitation hours for Albert will be held 3-5 and 7-9 Tuesday, March 10th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.
Albert''s funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 11th at the funeral home with the Reverend Father Thomas Vennitti officiating. Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.
