Anna Marie Karaffa (nee Dahill) age 84 of Columbus, Ohio, a former long-time resident of Toronto, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, seven years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer''s disease.
Anna Marie was born on January 29, 1929 in Toronto, Ohio, where she resided until recently. She is the daughter of the late William J. and Nancy (Cramer) Dahill Sr. She is a 1946 graduate of Toronto High School and a member of the St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church. She served for many years as a library aide at the Lincoln School where she was beloved by the children and her fellow staff members. She was a member of the Young Mothers Card Club for 58 years, the Toronto Lidramu Club, and the Toronto Band Mothers, serving as a counselor at Toronto Band Camp for many summers. Anna Marie was best known among her family and friends for her baking skills, especially her Christmas cookies.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her three brothers, William J. Dahill Jr., Harold K. Dahill, and Donald Dahill.
Anna Marie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph T. Karaffa, who is a former Superintendent of the Toronto City Schools, two daughters, Mrs. Nancy J. Gill and her husband David of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Susan K. Schnell of Columbus, Ohio; and four Grandchildren, Annie Gill (Phillip Welshans), Katie and Joey Gill, Julie Schnell, and nine nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the Memory Care staff of The Forum at Knightsbridge for the wonderful care they provided to her for the past three years and the staff at Kobacker House for the compassionate care they provided to her in her final days.
