Betty Jane (Hayhurst) Rice, age 87 of Toronto, OH passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.

She was born December 19, 1928 in Wyatt, WV the daughter of the late Oscar and Mertie (Mc Kinney) Hayhurst and granddaughter of the late William and Huldah (Price) Hayhurst and Silas and Mary (Swiger) Mc Kinney.

Betty loved to sew and several of her poems she wrote were published including "Brown Eyes Girls" and "Grandma's Little Helpers.

Betty was retired as a housekeeper from the St. John Medical Center (Trinity West) of Steubenville, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William C. Rice in 1993 whom she married March 30, 1946; sons, Michael Rice in 1977, Jerry Rice in 2012 and James Rice in 2016; brothers Robert Hayhurst andJames Hayhurst; sisters, Layunia Fisher, Mary Mc Intire, Olive Harris, and Helen McAtee, daughters-in-law, Mary Rice and Joyce Rice.

Betty is survived by her children, Daniel (Betty) Rice of Toronto, OH, John Rice of Toronto, OH, Judy (William) Orr of Irondale, OH, Gary Rice of Toronto, OH, Carol Henthorn of Wellsville, OH, Robert (Terrie) Rice of Toronto, OH, Pamela (Danny) Channels of Toronto, OH, Betty (Richard) Brandt of Steubenville, OH ; daughters-in-law, Debora (Landis) Rice and Monica (Mischik) Rice; 26 grandchildren and numerous  great grandchildren.

Visitation hours for Betty will be held 1-4 and 6-8 Thursday, December 1st at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.

A celebration service of Betty's life will be held 11 A.M. Friday December 2nd with Betty's grandson, Pastor Chad Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Union Cemetery, County Road 68 near Empire, OH.
