Obituary

Calvin C. Carnahan, 83, passed away Saturday evening, December 23, 2006. A lifelong resident of Toronto, OH, he was the son of the late Grover C. and Catherine Carnahan.On November 27, 2001, his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Clegg) Carnahan, preceeded him in death, taking with her his heart and his happiness.Also preceding him were his infant granddaughter, Katie Carnahan, sister Virginia (Jean) Kirkpatrick, brother John (Jack) Carnahan, and nephews Brian and Barry Kirkpatrick.Calvin graduated from THS in 1941, served four years in the Navy during WWII (did he ever tell you about the time he was in the Navy?), and retired from the Sales Department of Timet. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a former Toronto councilman, safety director, and mayor''s clerk. He helped organize the Toronto Boosters Club, coached Little League, and played a mean game of wiffle ball and A"Father May IA" with his children and their friends. He loved the horses and was named Mountaineer Park''s A"Best MemorabiliaA" during their 50 year celebration.Survivors include his son, John Michael (Mary Kay) Carnahan of Mingo Jct., his daughter, Cathy (Gary) McIntyre of Toronto, grandchildren Julie Stenger of Toronto, Kelly Carnahan of Charlotte, NC, and John C. Grimm of Kissimmee, FL, great-grandsons Dylan Grimm and Caleb and Noah Stenger, his little sister Elizabeth (Betty) Myslinsky, brother James (Nancy) Carnahan, sister-in-law Grace Clegg, all of Toronto, and several nieces and nephews.He was a man of great humor and compassion and will be sadly and deeply missed by those who loved him.Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26 at Clarke Funeral Home (740-537-1234 or 1-800-588-1446). A celebration of Cal''s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27 at First Presbyterian Church, Toronto. Burial will take place at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, with full military services by the Toronto Legion.Memorial contributions in Cal''s name can be made to First Presbyterian Church in Toronto, or Valley Hospice in Steubenville.
