Catherine E. (Katie) Pope, age 49, of Pittsburgh, PA., passed away on May 23, 2023, after a long three year battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, William Kannel, daughters, Ellie and Erinn, and her parents, Ed and Betsy Pope, formerly of Toronto. Katie graduated from Toronto High School in 1992, being the 5th generation of her family to do so. She received her bachelor's degree from The University of Dayton, a master's from Indiana/Purdue University, and a master's from the University of Iowa. She had been pursuing her doctorate in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Katie was a lifelong advocate for equality on all levels and worked tirelessly toward this goal as assistant director at Purdue University and executive director at Allegheny College for their Title XI and Diversity programs.  In 2015 she served at the University of Pittsburgh as its first full-time Title IX coordinator in the newly created Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and in 2022 headed the inaugural office of Strategic Operations and Planning as an associate vice chancellor.
