Charles Edward Merritt, Jr., age 70 of Toronto, OH passed away suddenly Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Twin City Hospital, Dennison, OH.

He was born August 3, 1944 in Steubenville, OH the son of the late Charles Edward Merritt, Sr. and Mary J. Vanderpool Cook

Charles loved to fish; was owner of Merritt and Sons Used Cars, Inc.; was retired from the Painter's Local Union #438 of Steubenville, OH and the J.L. Manta Company of Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Virgil and Raymond Merritt and Zane Cook.

Charles is survived by his wife, Judy Evelyn (Baker) Merritt whom she married August 3, 1963, 51 years of marriage; sons, Bernard E. Merritt, Sr. and wife Julie of Steubenville, OH, Robert L. Merritt and companion Kathy of Lewisville, NC, Karl K. Merritt and wife Holly of Toronto, OH, and John P. Merritt and wife Krissi of Toronto, OH; daughter, Candy M. Doomy and husband William of Pfafftown, NC; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Art Merritt, John Cook, Dominic Merritt and Joe Merritt; sisters, Charlotte Huggins, Gilda Boyer, Linda Hoover, Diane Shoulders, Jacquie Denman, Gloria Gault, Connie LaRue and Lisa Baker; step-brother, Bob Parks and step-sister Janet Wade

Visitation hours for Charles will be held 2-4 and 6-8 Friday, May 8th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH. Additional visitation will be held from 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home

A celebration service of Charles' life will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 9th at the funeral home with the Reverend Robert Woods officiating.. Interment will follow at the Center Chapel Cemetery, County Road 45, Steubenville, OH.
