Daniel A. Calabrese, age 94 of Toronto passed away at his home Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
He was born July 28, 1921 in Toronto the son of the late Samuel and Anna (Cassanta) Calabrese.
Daniel was a Roman Catholic by faith; member of the Toronto American Legion Post # 86 and the Allegheny Club of Pittsburgh; served his country as a member of the U.S. Army 318th Infantry Division serving under General George Patton and was a Purple Heart survivor of the Battle of the Bulge; was a 1939 graduate of Toronto High School and attended the Ohio State University.
Daniel with his partner Reno Tarquino developed the Maplewood sub-division in Pleasant Hill (Steubenville). He also along with his partners Reno Tarquino and his brother Eugene developed the U.S. Mine facility in St. Clairsville along with developing Country Club Hills in Steubenville. He also participated with his brother Eugene in the development of Calabrese Towers in Steubenville. Daniel developed the Tiger Park mobile home park in Wellsville. He had been co-owner of the Blue Danube Restaurant in Toronto.
Daniel was very socially active, loved music and loved to dance. He was well known for his dancing prowess.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Elsie (Yoho) Calabrese; brothers Louis Calabrese in 1928 and Charles Calabrese in 1989; sisters Dolores Calabrese in 1999, Flora Deramo and Ann Delfiacco in 2007; sister-in-law Fran Calabrese in 2005.
Daniel is survived by his son Louis D. Calabrese and wife Beth Ann of Lorain, OH and his brother Eugene Calabrese and wife Dorothy of Toronto; nephew Bruce Calabrese of Powell, OH; niece Mara Calabrese of Powell, OH; Ex-wife and longtime friend Peggy Calabrese of Toronto; two step-daughters Debbie Northcraft of Toronto and Freda Conlon Fox of North Carolina; three step-grandchildren Missy, Brad and Trevor Lease all of Toronto; and his "babies" two great grandchildren Piper and Max Lease of Weirton.
During his lengthy illness, Daniel was endearingly cared for by his loving step-daughter Debbie Northcraft and caregiver Karen Sue Baker.
Visitation hours for Daniel will be held from 10 A.M. to 12 noon Monday April 4th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto followed by a funeral service at 12 noon Monday with the Reverend Father Thomas Vennitti officiating.
There will be full military honors by the Toronto American Legion at the funeral home Monday.
Daniel's family suggests that any memorial donations in memory of Daniel be donated to the Toronto American Legion, 415 Market St., Toronto, OH 43964
