Obituary

Donald “Chip” Eugene Martin, age 82 of Lexington, South Carolina, a former local area resident, went

to be with his Lord Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Lexington Medical Center under the care of Amedysis

Hospice in Lexington, South Carolina.

He was born August 21, 1943, in Port Homer, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence Martin, Sr. and Edith

Dillon Martin.

Chip was blessed with a creative spirit, and his artistic abilities came out in many ways. He could create

anything that he committed his imagination to, and he spent many happy hours doing things like

decorating custom cakes, creating bulletin boards, making Halloween costumes, arranging flowers, and

decorating his house and yard for different holidays. Singing was a special love for Chip, and he would

do it in church as often as he could. It was always something that encouraged him and sustained his

faith, even in his latter days. Chip loved being outside, and he loved working in his yard. His lawn and

home were things worthy of an artist’s care as well. Most importantly, Chip was a man who loved and

found joy in spending time with his family. Just to be present with family was a love for him.

Chip was a member of the East Liverpool First Church of the Nazarene and the Port Homer Community

Church and was retired from the Sterling China Company in Wellsville, Ohio, as a Silk Screen

Coordinator.

In addition to his parents, Chip was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles E. Martin, Marjorie E.

Martin Hobbs, Clarence “Bob” Martin, Jr., Mildred R. Martin, Carl L. Martin, Clara E. Martin Russell,

Blanche N. Martin, Elmer L. Martin, Betty Martin Johnson, Floyd Martin and Della Martin Hudson.

Chip is survived by his wife of 61 years Betty Wright Martin; children, Angela Martin of Lexington,

South Carolina; Dennis Martin and wife Jennifer of Bethany, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Christopher

Rehn and wife Jordan of Lexington, South Carolina, Benjamin Martin of Bethany, Oklahoma, Bailey

Martin of Bethany, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Eden Rehn of Lexington, South Carolina, Evan

Slaughter of Lexington, South Carolina; brothers, James Martin and wife Kathleen of Hammondsville,

Ohio, Rosemond “Jack” Martin of Mingo Jct., Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours for Chip will be held Sunday, July 26 th, from 2 PM to 7 PM at the Clarke Funeral Home,

Toronto.

A celebration service of Chip’s life will be held Monday July 27 th 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor
