Eleanor Elizabeth (Williamson) Baxter of Canton, Ohio formerly of (Toronto) New Somerset, Ohio, so long and so favorably known by a wide circle of loving friends an family, has gone at last to be with her Lord and Savior, on the 4th day of January, 2007, at the advanced age of 93.She was born in Cream City, Jefferson County, Ohio, January 12, 1913, a daughter of the late William Benton and Nancy Gertrude (Eiferd) Williamson. She attended and was a high school graduate of the Jefferson County Schools receiving her diploma in 1934. On October 22, 1939, she married Floyd Baxter, who predeaceased her on December 20, 1987. She was a devoted member of the New Somerset United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she held numerous offices throughout her membership. She lived nearly her entire life in Hammondsville and New Somerset, Ohio until recently, making her home with her daughter, who faithfully cared for her until her passing.She leaves behind her, to mourn her loss, her daughter, Caren E. (Ronald J.) Gill of Massillon, Ohio; her son, Joseph W. (Pamela A.) Baxter of New Haven, Indiana; four grandchildren, Lance D. Gill, Todd A. (Lori) Gill, Lauren A. (Steve) Davis and Megan E. Baxter; two great-grandchildren, Joseph D.S. Gill and Alec M. Gill, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Marie Myers, Alice Williamson, Roemaine Baker and Violet Lawrence, and a brother, John Williamson.She was a sincere, earnest Christian, adorning the doctrines of God her Savior by a godly walk and conversation, and met her death calmly, for she knew in whom she believed. She was respected and loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed by everyone.Funeral services are to be conducted on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the New Somerset United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Hudson and Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Burial is to be in the New Somerset Christian Church Cemetery.
