IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth Geraldine
(Mayle) Tarr
June 19, 1923 – March 1, 2025
Elizabeth Geraldine Tarr, daughter of James Horne Gallagher and his wife Carrie, was born on June 19, 1923. Unfortunately, her father James passed away in November 1922 before her arrival. Known primarily as Jerry, Elizabeth passed away on Saturday March 1, 2025 at the age of 101 after a two year stay at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville.
Mrs. Tarr worked for a variety of furniture stores in the area. In 2006 she retired from Hauser Furniture Store at the age of 83. She had spent over 45 years in the furniture business.
Jerry enjoyed taking care of her home which she and her husband built and was constantly painting walls. You didn't stand still if she had a brush in her hand. She and her husband Jack planted a huge garden and she canned tomatoes and beans for the winter. They even had a small orchard.
Jerry loved having her grandchildren around her and would get down on the floor with some of them and teach them how to make pillows / pillowcases. She would guide them through the process as they chatted away getting to know each other. As she got older, the kids affectionately called her Grandma Tarry.
Mrs. Tarr was an avid reader and read thousands of large print books which were later donated to a nursing home where her granddaughter Aimee worked.
Kind and generous with a great sense of family, Mrs. Tarr enjoyed seeing others happy. She sponsored many family reunions at her home in Knoxville to strengthen family ties and celebrate together
In addition to her parents and step father Paul Hosenfeld, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William P. Hosenfeld, Alma Jean Hosenfeld and Jack L. Hosenfeld; her son, Jack Tarr II and her granddaughter Aimee O'Connor.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Jacquelyne O'Connor and Joyce Morrow; 12 grandchildren, Mark, Matt and Larry Michael Morrow. Rebecca, Loren and Mick O'Connor. Stacey Snider Jack Proffitt. Shannon Hair and Stephen Holcomb and Justin Tarr.39 great grandchildren and 45 great-great grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
A private burial will be taken place at the Toronto Cemetery where she will be joined by her husband Jack after 50 years.
Mrs. Tarr's arrangements are entrusted to the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, Ohio
