Obituary

George Benjamin Meyer, age 84 of Toronto, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2005 at Trinity Medical Center West - Steubenville.Born August 12, 1921 in Abell, St. Mary''s County Maryland, he is a son of the late George H. and Gladys Morris Meyer. George was a member of the North River Avenue Church of Christ where he was a 50 - year member, served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Church Trustee, Church Treasurer and was a member of the Choir. He was retired from the former Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked as a Roll Grinder, and was also a member of the Weirton Steel Men''s Chorus and the 25 - year club. George is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in WW II, and is a member of the Toronto American Legion, St. Mihiel Post #86 in Toronto. George was also a long time member of the Toronto Community Concert Band, playing the French horn.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles B. Meyer and Ralph F. A"FredA" Meyer.George''s Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth A"PegA" Barnes Meyer, of the home whom he married June 3, 1949. Two daughters, Mrs. Deborah Wells and her husband Pat of Toronto, and Mrs. Diana Warner and her husband Bill of Atglen, Pa. A son David Meyer and his wife Lynn of Toronto; Six grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Jordan, and Hannah Meyer, Captain Christopher Warner M.D. and Mrs. Heather Gohlich. Five great - grandchildren, Sydney Meyer, Tyler Gohlich, and Jacob, Aaron, and Matthew Warner; and a sister Mrs. Edith Meyer Logan of Toronto.Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, September 8, 2005 from 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. at the Clarke Funeral Home - 302 Main St. Toronto.740-537-1234/800-588-1446A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the North River Avenue Church of Christ - 207 North River Avenue Toronto, with Pastor Robert E. Hanze officiating.
