Iva May Howard Shyne, born on November 3, 1923 in Toronto. She was the oldest daughter born to Harry and Iva Howard. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Iva Howard; one brother Harry, and a sister Marie Brown (Howard).Iva received her formal education and graduated from Toronto High School.Iva accepted Christ at an early age at the Simpson United Methodist Church in Steubenville. Iva moved to Dayton, Ohio where she meet and married Leonard Shyne on May 28, 1952. To this union two daughters were born, Diana and Barbara. Leonard passed away in 1995.In Dayton, Iva was employed at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In 1949 she became employed with Ohio Bell of Dayton as an elevator operator. With the passing of Affirmative action regulations, she was moved to a long distance operator. In 1952, Iva transferred to Ohio Bell in Cleveland. She worked at the Glennville Office for a number of years and then transferred to the Huron Road office. Iva was a devoted employee of Ohio Bell for 36 A½ years and retired in 1985.Iva loved to bake homemade cakes and pies for family and friends. She also loved participating in the Howard family reunion held every July in Toronto.Iva was loved by her family and friends. She departed this life on Sunday, March 25, 2007.She leaves to cherish warm and lasting memories her daughters Diana Bennet; Bogan and Barbara Phipps; Grandson Anthony L. Bennet Jr. (Caroline); brothers Paul of Toronto, John (Gerri) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, James (Sandy) of Marietta, sisters Wilda Taylor of Toronto, Jeanetta Hart of Wellsville, Anola Archibald (Julius) of Plattsburg, New York, Lenore Douglas, Dorothy Williams, Joan Johnson from Dayton.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 12:00 P.M. at the Simpson United Methodist Church - 430 Slack Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.
