Jane Alice (Grubbs) Connolly of Toronto, Ohio died November 5, 2015, at Kensington Place in Columbus, Ohio. She was born July 21, 1925, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late William J. Grubbs and the late Iva (Baird) Grubbs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond T. Connolly to whom she married in 1947; her brothers Dale Grubbs and John William Grubbs; and her sisters Lois Horn and Nora Fickle.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toronto.
She attended elementary and high school in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania and finished her last semester at Steubenville High School, graduating in 1944. She enlisted in the Army Cadet Nurse Program and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.
She worked as a staff nurse at Ohio Valley Hospital and as a traveling tuberculosis nurse for the Hancock County Tuberculosis League in New Cumberland, West Virginia. She was later employed as a school nurse by the Toronto Board of Education and was responsible for all Toronto schools. She was the school nurse for 25 years and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of School Nurses. She retired in 1980. Additionally, she served as the Health Commissioner for the City of Toronto.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Tim) Rini of Columbus, Ohio; her grandson, Joseph Rini and his wife Alison and their two children, Lora and Raymond of Sarasota, Florida; her granddaughter, Jane Rini of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Elva Treasure of Bolivar, Pennsylvania; a brother, Glen (Claire) Grubbs of Seabrook, New Hampshire; plus numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Toronto, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015. Interment will be at the Toronto Union Cemetery.at a later date at the convenience of the family
