John E. Douds - age 86 - of Toronto, Ohio beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was received into Glory by his Lord on Wednesday September 14, 2011 at the Valley Hospice Care Center - North - Steubenville, Ohio. John was a faithful member of the North River Avenue Christian Church in Toronto. He served in the choir, as a youth sponsor, as a Deacon and then as an Elder in the church.He was born January 16, 1925 in Toronto, Ohio to the late John and Nancy Wellington Douds.John graduated from Toronto High School in 1943 when he entered the Army to serve his country in World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. He was in the Army 2nd Armored Division.John was retired in 1983 from the Weirton Steel Co. having worked in the tin mill for 40 years.He was preceded in death by: Parents, brothers - Homer and Jerry Douds, sisters - Jane Speedy, Verna Schaefer and Hilda Clenndenning.John will be sadly missed by Pauline Firm Douds (his bride of nearly 68 years) whom he married December 18, 1943, sons - John Thomas (Cindy) Douds of Canton, Michigan and Jeffery William Douds of Johnson City, Tennessee. daughters - Shirley (Thomas) Pellior of Groveport, Ohio and Lisa (Edward) Rex of Toronto, Ohio. His grandchildren Krista Stelmaszek, Lori Nielson, John Pellior, Leigh Ann Rex, Jared Rex, Brian Rex and Kristin Ray, and his 14 precious great-grandchildren.Well done good and faithful servant.Visitation hours for John will be 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday September 16th at the Clarke Funeral Home - 302 Main St. - Toronto, Ohio.A celebration service for John will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 17th at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Hanze officiating. There will also be military honors by the Toronto American Legion Chaplain at the funeral home Saturday.Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.Memorial contributions in memory of John may be made to the North River Avenue Christian Church - 207 N.
