Obituary

John D. Keyser, Sr., age 90 of Wintersville, OH passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Life Line Hospital, Wintersville, OH.

He was born May 6, 1924 in Steubenville the son of the late David M.Keyser and Elizabeth (Stonebraker) Burns.

John was a member of the Wintersville United Methodist church; Wintersville Methodist Men''s Club for 35 years; Toronto American Legion Post #86; Ohio Patriot Guard District # 6; graduate of Steubenville High School; involved in and coached the Wintersville Bulldogs Football team; loved to fish and go camping; was a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran joining in 1943 and served his country in the European Theatre of Operations. He received his basic training at Camp Lee in Virginia and was shipped to England on the Queen Mary ocean liner. He was a supply clerk in General Eisenhower''s headquarters while in England. He later participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France and the freeing of France in 1944. He saw action with the 407th anti-tank company throughout France and Germany. He was part of the contingent that freed the survivors at the Dachau concentration camp.
