John R. McTheny Sr. age 72 of Toronto, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Aspinwall, PA.
Born December 14, 1940 in Toronto, he is a son of the late Harlen H. and Lillian I (McElwain) McTheny. John is a 1960 Graduate of Toronto High School and a Christian by faith. He served on the Toronto Police Department for ten years, six of those years as a Captain. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War era, serving in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. John is retired from the former Ohio Edison Corporation, having worked at the Toronto Power Plant.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Alice Hannan, a brother, Harold McTheny Sr., and a step-granddaughter Alexandrya Dawn Smith.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Carol Sue (Blackburn) McTheny of Toronto, whom he married March 12, 1966. A daughter, Mrs. Deborah L. Merritt of Olive Branch, Mississippi; a son John R. McTheny Jr. and his wife Tina of Newport News, Virginia; a brother, Ronald W. McTheny and his wife Fran of Toronto, OH.; two sisters, Mrs. Linda King and her husband Tom of Toronto, OH.; Mrs. Mary Clark of Keyser, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Brittany and Zachary Merritt, Brooke and Brett McTheny, and two step-grandsons, Austin and Dakota Egnew.
