IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Ann
(Spicer) Dye
April 10, 1944 – June 5, 2025
Joyce Ann (Spicer) Dye (81) passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025. The daughter of the late James and Annie Vera (Garrison) Spicer, Joyce was born on April 10, 1944, in Steubenville, Ohio. She attended Jefferson Union High School and graduated as part of the class of 1962. Joyce shared 34 beautiful years of marriage and three children with her husband William "Bill" Dye, until his passing in 2012. Joyce was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Trigg and three brothers, James Spicer, Donald Spicer and Sanford Spicer all of Ohio.
Joyce had several occupations during her life. Early on, she worked as a waitress at the former Stratton Truck Stop, then she became a certified EMT and was employed by the Ohio Edison Power Plant in Stratton, Ohio and volunteered as an EMT for the Saline Township Ambulance Service. After leaving the Power Plant, Joyce was a machine operator at Sterling China in Wellsville Ohio until her retirement.
Joyce had an adventurous spirit that led her on many unforgettable trips with her family and friends. If you needed a travel companion, Joyce would always have her bag packed and be ready to go. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, sitting outside listening to the birds sing and having her daily phone calls with her kids or listening to her favorite country artist Conway Twitty. Joyce was very dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle and would work out three times a week at the YMCA in Calcutta, where she developed many special friendships.
She is survived by her children, Richard Peterson and wife Susan of Independence, Kansas and Billy Jo Thornton and husband David of Toronto, Ohio; grandchildren, Jessie & Brad Thomas, Cody & Amber Shook, Tyler & Brittney Peterson, Caitlyn Thornton, Caleb Thornton and Bella Thornton; and two great-grandchildren, Liam Shook and Ezra Thomas.
Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with her generosity, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends.
Per Joyce's request, no viewing or public religious service will be held. Interment will be at the Sugar Grove Union Cemetery.
