Patricia McMahon Young

Patricia McMahon Young, born February 16, 1960 died at age 66 on June 22, 2026. Patricia is the daughter of Mary McMahon and John Young MD of Toronto, Ohio. She graduated from Toronto High School in 1978 and the Community College of Beaufort, South Carolina. She worked as a pharmacy assistant on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, her home for many years. Patricia returned to Toronto 1998 and died at Wyngate Senior Assisted Living in Weirton West Virginia following a long illness.

Craniosynostosis or Crouzon’s Syndrome impacted Patricia’s physical and mental health throughout her life. Pat said that “Wonder” the book and later movie by J. Palacio was her story without the happy ending. A 1976 New York Times article described pioneering craniofacial surgery. Patricia was one of the patients. She remained friends her entire life with Dr. Whitaker, the University of Pennsylvania plastic surgeon. Pat also became a friend of Mr. Fred Rogers of the Neighborhood. His letters always ended, “I like you just the way you are.”

Patricia is survived by her brother William of Hanover NH and is predeceased by her parents, sister Mary and brother John.

Patricia’s arrangements are entrusted to the Clarke Funeral Home. Toronto. A graveside service is planned at a future date.
