Paul Frederick Merritt, age 79 of Steubenville. OH passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Life Line Hospital. Wintersville, OH.

He was born December 9, 1936 in Steubenville, OH the son of the late Frank and Evelyn (Thompson) Merritt.

Paul was a member of the Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, Steubenville (Pleasant Hill), OH and was retired from the Titanium Metals Corporation, Toronto, OH. He had also been formerly employed at the Steubenville Pottery and the Kaul Clay Company of Toronto, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Naomi H. (Cunningham) Merritt in 2008 whom he married November 4, 1966; sons, James F. Merritt in 2002 and Peter P. Merritt in 2015; daughter, Elizabeth Merritt; brother, Richard W. Merritt in 1994 and sisters , Wilma Merrill in 2012 and Nancy Merritt in 2016.

Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Baker) Merritt whom he married May 2, 2015; daughters, Gayle McMillan of Toronto, OH and Susan (Michael) King of Ft. Worth, TX ; step-daughters, Tina (Chris) Weekly of Toronto, OH and  Debbie (Dale) Cook of West Virginia ; son, David Merritt of Galveston TX;  step-sons, John (Cheryl) Channels of Toronto, OH and Kurt Channels of Steubenville, OH;  6 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great grandchildren and three step-great-great grandchildren; brother, Laddie Merritt of Toronto, OH and sister  Nora Lee (John) Bosela all of Steubenville, OH.

Visitation hours for Paul will be held 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, August 3rd and from Noon to 2 P.M. Thursday, August 4th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St,. Toronto, OH.

A celebration service of Paul's life will be held 2 P.M.Thursday at the funeral home with the Reverend Jeff Proya  officiating. Interment will follow at the Center Chapel Cemetery.
