Obituary

Phillip M. Runyon, 80 of Sebring, OH, formerly of Chesterland, OH, died Thursday August 23, 2001 in Salem Community Hospital.
He was a 4 year resident of the Copeland Oaks Community.
He was born June 9, 1921 in Sugar Grove, Ohio the son of the late Clifford P. and Carrie Vantilburg Runyon.
He attended Asbury College in Wilmer, KY, he continued his education and graduated from Mount Union College, He received his Masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent 2 years in the Army Air Corps during WW II.
His teaching career included Irondale High School, Principal at Hillcrest Elementary School, Principal at Jefferson Union High School, and 21 years as Principal of Westwood Elementary School in Chesterland, OH.
He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a associate member at Union Ave. UMC in Alliance, OH. He was a lifetime member of Kiwanis Club with 35 years of perfect attendance. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Burness whom he married June of 1951; 4 daughters: Sharon Runyon of Akron, OH, Allyn Sue Carlson and her husband Eric of Chardon, OH, Lois Rawson and her husband Amos of Twinsburg, OH, Leah Jacobs and her husband Bruce of Akron, OH; one brother Charles Runyon and his wife Erma Jean; four grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, Nicole, and Phillip Lee. Calling Hours are from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 25, 2001 at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church - 159 Cty Rd 68 - Toronto, OH - where funeral services will follow, with the Reverend Gordon Ruggles officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday August 26, 2001 at the Copeland Oaks Chapel - 800 S. 15th St. - Sebring, OH 44672. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to either the Trinity United Methodist Church - Mayfield Rd. - Chesterland, OH 44026 or the Copeland Oaks Foundation - 800 S. 15th St. - Sebring, OH 44672.
