Richard Paul Wells, Sr. - age 71 - of Steubenville, Ohio ( a former resident of Toronto, Ohio ) died Saturday April 13, 2001 at Trinity Medical Center West - Steubenville.
Richard was born September 9, 1929 in Toronto, the son of the late Harvey E. and Mary L. Still Wells.
He is a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto.
He is a 1948 graduate of Jefferson Union High School and is a member of: Toronto Masonic Lodge #583 F.& A.M. / Toronto Lions Club / The Steubenville, New Philadelphia and Barnesville Coin Clubs.
He is a veteran of the United States Army.
Richard was a former employee of Titanium Metals Corp.- Toronto, he had served as a Constable for Island Creek Township, he was Jefferson County Sheriff from 1964 to 1972 and retired from the State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a Field Representative after serving as sheriff. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother - Dennis Wells and 3 sisters - Alice Westfall, Janice Owens, and Betty Swiger. His survivors are: Wife: Linda C. Leicy Wells of the home Whom he married October 31, 1998. 1 Son: Richard P. Wells, Jr. & wife Kelly of Dover, Ohio 1 Daughter: Donna Starr & husband Robert of Toronto Step-Son: Robert Hope & wife Heidi of Westerville, Ohio 3 Brothers: Dale Wells of Holland, Michigan Keith Wells of Arkansas Clifton Wells of Arkansas 2 Sisters: Deloris Mellott of Steubenville Patty Chiota of Steubenville Five grandchildren Visitation hours will be 7-9 Monday 2-4 & 7-9 Tuesday at the Clarke Funeral Home - 302 Main Street, Toronto, Ohio. 740-537-1234 Or 800-588-1446. Toronto Lions Club Services will be held 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. Toronto Masonic Services will be held 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday April 18, 2001 at First Presbyterian Church - 116 N. Third Street, Toronto with the Reverend Lucas Pina officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery - Steubenville, Ohio Memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be made to the First Presbyterian Church - 116 N. Third Street, Toronto, Ohio 43964
