Ronald James Riggleman
Ronald James Riggleman, age 91, formerly of Toronto, Ohio passed away May 19, 2026 in Lakeland,
FL where he resided. Ronald was born July 24, 1934, the son of Freda McKnight Stephens and Basil Riggleman. Ronald is preceded in death my his parents and his sister, Donna Riggleman Manning.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Evelyn Jeans Riggleman of Lakeland, FL, his daughter Rhonda Jean Riggleman (Mark Sartoris) of Lakeland, FL, granddaughter, Katlyn Alexandra Sartoris (Sheldon Jacobson) of Leesburg, FL, grandson Ronald James Sartoris (Kimberly) of Soldatna, Alaska, 17 nieces and nephews and many grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews
Ronald was a 1952 graduate of Toronto High School and after graduation immediately joined the United States Marine Corp. After basic and cold weather training, he was stationed in South Korea for nearly two years, serving as a radar technician. Ronald was honorably discharged as a Sargent in 1955.
Ronald joined Weirton Steel Corporation in 1955 and rapidly advanced into leadership. He spent his last 10 years at Weirton Steel as manager of maintenance and engineering for the entire plant. During his time at Weirton Steel he traveled extensively to foreign countries to bring back knowledge and new procedures.
Ronald was an exceptional basketball player in high school and played many years in independent leagues. He also excelled at golf and carried a 5 handicap.
Ronald was a member of Dyer Country Club in Toronto, served as board president and was instrumental in major club improvements including a club house expansion, watered fairways and creating a club archive.
Ronald was a member of Riverview Global Methodist church in Toronto and a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry, Florida. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge of Toronto, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Riverview Global Methodist Church in Toronto or Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry.
Visitation will be Thursday May 28, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00pm at Clarke Funeral Home in Toronto and at Riverview Global Methodist Church in Toronto on Friday May 29, 2026 at 10:00am with the service to follow at 11:00am.
Full military honors will be presented by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
