Ruth E. Nightingale age 93 of Toronto, OH passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Trinity Medical Center, East, Steubenville, OH.

She was born April 12, 1921 in Knoxville, OH the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Grimes) Douds

Ruth was the oldest surviving member of the Toronto Wesleyan Church; was retired from the former G.C. Murphy 5 and 10 Store in Toronto and was a 1938 graduate of Toronto High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James E. "Ed" Nightingale in 1989 whom she married in September of 1940; a son, David Nightingale in 1972; brothers, Hillis, Glenn Richard and Paul Douds; sisters, Catherine Chapman and Mildred Irene Douds. Ruth is survived by her sons, William E. Nightingale of Toronto, OH and the Reverend Richard (Sarah) Nightingale of East Aurora, NY; grandchildren, Dianna Nightingale Riffle of Gilbert, AZ, Jann (Paul) Deku of Elsmere, KY, Joan Griffith of Toronto, OH , Darla Nightingale of Wellsville, OH, Ryan (Krystena) Nightingale of West Seneca, NY and Michael (Melissa) Nightingale of East Aurora, NY. Seven great-grandchildren also survive. Visitation hours for Ruth will be held from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, December 23rd and from 9 to 10 A.M. Wednesday, December 24th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH. A celebration service of Ruth''s life will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Reverend Dennis Croy officiating. Interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Union Cemetery, County Road 68 near Empire, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to the Toronto Wesleyan Church 211, South Third Street, Toronto, OH 43964
