Samuel Wilson Powell, Age 68 of Wilmington, Ohio, formerly of Toronto, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington after a courageous battle with cancer.Born May 10, 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio, Sam is the son of the late Mildred L. Sciance and her husband Ernest, and Floyd W. (Mary Jane) Powell. Sam is a 1960 graduate of Toronto High School, a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ, the Clinton County Amateur Radio Club and was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 154 in Wilmington. After graduation from Toronto High School, Sam enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his county for 25 years, including four tours of duty in Vietnam. While in the Navy Sam served as a Torpedoman on the U.S.S. Spinax, and then as an EOD (explosive ordinance disposal/ UDT (underwater demolition teams) Frogman and Deep Water Diver. In addition to being retired from the Navy, he is retired from Airborne Express and Southern State Community College where he worked as a maintenance man.Sam is survived by his wife of nearly forty years, Mrs. Sue Powell whom he married October 3, 1970 in Moffet Field, California, His son, Scott H. Powell and his wife Sarah of Fairborn, Ohio, Grandchildren Sonnet and Sawyer Powell also of Fairborn; Four sisters, Mrs. Janet Coffman and her husband George, Mrs. Judy Lewis and her husband John, all of Toronto, Ohio. Mrs. Jane Walker and her husband Lloyd of Jacksonville, Florida, Ms. Jean Singleton of Wilmington, Ohio, A brother John Powell and his wife Monica of Martinsville, Ohio and many Nieces and Nephews.Family and friends will gather for memorial visitation on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 1:00 until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 P.M. at the Wilmington Church of Christ a
