Thomas M. McKelvey - age 96 - of Toronto passed away Thursday - February 18, 2010 at the Valley Hospice Care Center - North - Steubenville, Ohio.He was born October 6, 1913 in Toronto, Ohio the son of the late Thomas L. McKelvey and Myrtle Arnold McKelvey Hood.Tom attended the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto.He was a member and one of the original 15 founders of the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club. He received the Dapper Dan prestigious Robert S. McKelvey Award. He served as a director of the Dapper Dan when it was formed in 1964 and also held the position of Treasurer and Secretary of the club. He was a former member of the Toronto Lions Club and the Jefferson Ruritan Club. He received the Toronto Area Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Tom had worked at a men''s clothing store and at the former Fulmer''s Service Station in Toronto / the former Curtis - Wright Factory in Beaver, Pa. during W.W.II making airplane propellers /Tom is retired as shipper and sales manager of the former Hilz Lumbar Co. of Toronto for 20 years and the Toronto City School System in maintenance and is presently employed by the Toronto City School System as an Attendance Officer. He was the oldest active employee in the Ohio School System serving for 44 years.Tom was a friend and helper to many, many people in the area. He had a memory that many would envy up to his recent illness.
