Verna Lee Hodovanic, age 84 of Toronto, OH passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH.

She was born September 5, 1932 in Raceland, KY the daughter of the late Thurman Pennington and Jewel (Huffman) Straka.

Verna was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Toronto and the Catholic Women's Club of the church.

She was a 1951 graduate of Toronto High School and was retired as the owner and manager of the former Verna's Dress Shop in Toronto.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Joseph Hodovanic in November 15, 2012 whom she married July 2, 1955; sisters, Helen Sims and Thelma "Timmy" Scarbino; brothers-in-law,  George and John Hodovanic.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas E. (Tammy) Straka of Wintersville, OH; sister, Martha Owens of Chester, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours for Verna will be held 4-8 P.M. Thursday, February 16th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St, Toronto. A Vigil service will be held at 4 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held from 9:15 to 10 A.M., Friday,  February 17th at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 1225 N. River Ave., Toronto.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 A.M. Friday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with celebrant the Reverend Father Thomas Vennitti. Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery.
