IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Percy
Garman
July 8, 1927 – April 6, 2016
William Percy "Bill" Garman, 88, of Toronto, died peacefully Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Acuity Specialty Hospital in Steubenville. Bill was born in Toronto, Ohio on July 8, 1927 and truly loved the city he was proud to call home.
Bill served this great country as a Communications Specialist in the United States Navy, serving in both World War II and Korea. He was the owner for many years of Bill Garman Real Estate. He truly enjoyed helping many families over the years achieve the dream of home ownership.
On June 20, 1953 Bill married the eternal love of his life Delores Jean Mehalko. Bill was preceded in death by Delores on July 11, 2015. In his own words at that time " Me, Bill, was married to Delores for 62 years & 21 days and life with her was really special. I loved her, loved her, loved her more each day." He described Delores as having a "breathless charm" about her.
Bill was loved by so many including his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends. As a Catholic, he was a man of strong faith and he was very active within the church.
Bill loved life, he loved his community of Toronto, Ohio, and he loved people. Each day he'd find a way to make someone smile by sending a small handwritten note to say hello, a newspaper clipping recognizing a special achievement, or a personal visit just because. For all that knew Bill, his warm smile and magnificent heart will always be remembered.
Bill was a passionate sports fan. His love of The Ohio State University and the Buckeyes was always at the forefront of conversation. He considered the annual game with Michigan to be a holiday and TBDBITL was in tune with his very soul. The Ohio State University Marching Band was the highlight of game day for him. He anticipated the sweet sound of every note and cherished every performance. His other passion was the Toronto Red Knights. He loved Toronto sports. One thing you'd always hear him say is "Once a Red Knight, Always a Red Knight". From the basketball court, to the football field, and on to the baseball diamond, these moments made him truly happy.
Bill was a genuine soul, that was full of life. As per Bill's wishes, there will be no visitation or public service. He will always be remembered for making a difference for so many.
All arrangements for Bill will be private at the convenience of his family. His arrangements were entrusted to the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH
