Joseph Michael Nemitt, age 90 of Toronto passed away Wednesday August 31, 2022 at the Steubenville Country Club Manor.
He was born December 14, 1931 in Irondale, OH the son of the late Joseph M. Nemitt and Elizabeth H. (Beros) Nemitt and was also preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. (Jones) Nemitt in 2015 whom he married July 31, 1954; sister, Betty Jane Swickard and brother Robert “Flug” Nemitt and an infant brother.
Joe served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant First Class serving with the elite 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment as part of the 11th and 101st Airborne Divisions.
Joe served in Korea as a Path Finder earning among his awards The Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, The Combat Infantry Mans Badge and Parachutist Badge.
Joe was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church of Toronto; member of the Toronto American Legion Post 86; was a 1950 graduate of Toronto High School and was retired as a maintenance foreman at TIMET, Toronto.
He is survived by his children, Mary Jo (Robert) Morris of Toronto, Cathleen M. (Daniel) Wyand of Ashland, OH, Joseph D. “Buck”(Kim) Nemitt of Toronto, Paul R. (Jeannette) Nemitt of Toronto, and Cary A. (John) Krol of Moon Township, PA; grandchildren, Christina (Shane) Bretz, Kim (Mike) Lowiec, Sean Wyand, Jaime (Carmen) Destefano, Zachary Krol, Savannah Krol, Joey Nemitt and Madelyn Krol, Monica ((Tomasso) Valerio and J.J. (Gina) Miclea; great-grandchildren, Caleb Bretz, Benjamin Lowiec, Easton Bretz, Rocco Destefano, Amara and Anthony Valerio.
Visitation hours for Joe will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM noon Saturday, September 3rd at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto.
A service for Joe will be held at 12 PM noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Reverend Father James M. Dunfee officiating, Interment will follow at the Island Creek Cemetery.
Military honors will be presented at the Island Creek Cemetery by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be sent to the St. Francis Catholic Church, 1225 N. River Ave., Toronto, OH 43964
The service at the funeral home will be streamed at the Clarke Funeral Home Facebook page by pressing like when the site is opened for Joe’s service.
