JUDITH ANN (SCIANCE) LEWIS, AGE 74 OF TORONTO, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2023 AFTER A BRIEF, BUT VALIANT BATTLE WITH CANCER AT THE WEIRTON MEDICAL CENTER.

BORN MARCH 2, 1949 IN STEUBENVILLE, SHE IS A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE ERNEST H. AND MILDRED L. (WILLOUGHBY) POWELL SCIANCE. SHE WAS A 1967 GRADUATE OF TORONTO HIGH SCHOOL, AND A 1968 GRADUATE OF THE FORMER CLARK, GILBERT, AND SILVERTHORN BEAUTY SCHOOL. SHE WORKED AS A HAIRSTYLIST FOR OVER 50 YEARS AT THE IMAGES (FORMERLY CHEV-U) STYLING SALON, AND WAS THE STAFF HAIRDRESSER AT THE CLARKE FUNERAL HOME FOR 30 YEARS. SHE WAS A 50 YEAR MEMBER OF THE FORMER NORTH RIVER AVENUE CHURCH OF CHRIST, AND SPENT MANY YEARS AS A MEMBER OF THE CHOIR, AND A YOUTH GROUP LEADER. SHE ALSO SPENT TIME ATTENDING THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, BOTH OF TORONTO, BEING ACTIVE IN BOTH CHURCH CHOIRS. SHE SANG FOR MANY YEARS WITH THE FORMER STEUBENVILLE CIVIC CHORAL SOCIETY, AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE TORONTO FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES AUXILIARY NO. 1276. 

JUDY HAD A DEEP LOVE FOR MUSIC AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE TORONTO BAND PARENTS ORGANIZATION WHERE SHE SERVED AS THE VICE-PRESIDENT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. SHE SPENT SEVERAL YEARS AS THE COOK AT THE TORONTO BAND CAMP, AND FROM 1989-2001 ENJOYED WORKING THE CONCESSION STAND AT THE TORONTO RED KNIGHT FOOTBALL GAMES, YELLING LOUDLY FOR THE BAND AS THEY ENTERED THE STADIUM, ESPECIALLY FOR HER TWO TUBA PLAYING BOYS. SHE LOVED ALL THINGS PITTSBURGH SPORTS, AND WAS AN AVID OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY BUCKEYE FAN. SHE LOVED VACATIONING IN FLORIDA AT KEY WEST AND HER BELOVED FT. MYERS BEACH.

IN ADDITION TO HER PARENTS, SHE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND OF 50 YEARS JOHN F. LEWIS WHOM SHE MARRIED MAY 22, 1971 AND WHO PASSED AWAY JANUARY 11, 2022; A BROTHER SAMUEL W. POWELL; A SISTER JANET E. COFFMAN; AND A HALF BROTHER JOHN POWELL.

JUDY’S SURVIVORS INCLUDE TWO SONS, MATTHEW E. G. LEWIS AND HIS FIANCEE DENISE L. CORK OF TORONTO, AND JOSHUA J. LEWIS AND HIS WIFE SHERRY E. LEWIS OF IRONDALE; GRANDCHILDREN ELVIS E. JORDAN III OF IRONDALE, TECHNICAL SERGEANT JOHN W. HALL OF PLUMAS LAKE, CA, ANTHONY J. HALL OF JEANETTE, PA, SYLVIA N. STEIN OF TORONTO; GREAT-GRANDSON QUE TION DEAN OF TORONTO. THREE SISTERS-IN-LAW, DORIS “SUE” POWELL OF WILMINGTON, KATHY “TOOTS” JESSIC AND HER HUSBAND STANLEY “BUTCH” OF HOLIDAYSBURG, P, AND REGINA CHURCHMAN AND HER HUSBAND R. LEE; A BOTHER-IN-LAW GEORGE W. COFFMAN II OF FLORIDA; HALF-SISTERS JEAN SINGLETON AND JANE WALKER AND HER HUSBAND LLOYD ALL OF WILMINGTON; MANY NEPHEWS, COUSINS AND CLOSE FRIENDS WHO WERE CONSIDERED FAMILY; AND HER TWO BELOVED CATS HEMINGWAY THE STUPID AND WTF MORTON.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL GATHER FOR VISITATION ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9, 2023 FROM 4-7PM AT THE CLARKE FUNERAL HOME – 302 MAIN ST. TORONTO, OH. 43964 740-537-1234

ADDITIONAL VISITATION WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 2023 FROM 11:00 AM UNTIL THE TIME OF HER CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE AT 12:00 NOON WITH PASTOR ROB MINTO OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT TORONTO UNION CEMETERY
