Lester Grimes Obituary

Lester A. Grimes, age 84 of Toronto passed away Nov. 3rd at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born July 2, 1938 in New Somerset the son of the late Kenneth and Helen Louise (Schilling) Grimes.

Lester was a member of the New Somerset Christian Church; Weirton Steel 25 Year Club; Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department having served as department secretary for 52 years; member for 50 years; secretary of the Jefferson Ruritan Club and Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop N0. 41, Toronto.

He was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson Union High School and had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean war; was retired from the Weirton Steel Co. as a clerk and foreman sub and served as a trustee of the Knoxville Cemetery Association.

In addition to his parents, Les was proceeded in death by grandparents, Dr. Robert W. and Emma (Boyd) Schilling; sister, Carolyn Kennedy and brother, Richard E. Grimes.

Lester is survived by his wife Catherine Marie (Johnson) Grimes whom he married January 18, 1969, 53 years; sons, Kenneth (Kelly) Grimes of Wellsville and Keith (Marie Holt) of Richmond; daughter, Lisa Grimes of Toronto; grandchildren, Mary Helen Louise Grimes, Addaline M. Grimes and Abigail D. Grimes. Also a brother, Robert Irwin (Margaret) Eakin of Sarasota, FL survives.

Visitation hours for Lester will be held 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday , November 8th at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto.

A celebration service of Lester’s life will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 9th at the funeral home with Pastor Rob Minto officiating. Interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Union Cemetery. Members of the Knoxville Volunteer  Fire Department  will  present a fireman's salute following services at the funeral home before going to the cemetery and also serve as Lester's casket bearers and escorts    to the cemetery. 

 Full military graveside honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.

A luncheon will follow at the New Somerset Christian Church following services for Lester’s friends and family.
