Nancy Byrd Smith, age 93 of Toronto passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
She was born February 6, 1927 in Toronto the daughter of the late William Clifford and Nancy Mae (Gooch) Byrd.
Nancy was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church, Toronto; Toronto Order of the Eastern Star; was a 1944 graduate of Toronto High School and a graduate of Ohio University having belonged to Theta Epsilon teaching society and a member of the Toronto High School Alumni Association.
She was an elementary grade teacher who preferred teaching in the fourth grade classes at the Toronto, Wintersville and Morristown, N.J. school systems at one time.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband whom she married July 6, 1951, Kenneth Charles Smith who passed in 1990; sisters, Betty B. Churchman, Virginia “Dider” Ensman and Carol Harris.
Nancy is survived by several nieces & nephews including a very special nephew; great - nieces and great – nephews; a few great-great nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Ray Harris of Leesburg, FL.
To honor Nancy’s wishes, there will be a private family visitation and a celebration service of her life with Pastor Raul Diaz officiating and interment in the Toronto Union Cemetery.
