Robert Rawson Obituary

Robert “Bob” Eugene Rawson, age 69, a husband, dad, and Pappap of Toronto, OH passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Weirton Medical Center after having been sick for a while. The wonderful part is Bob is wonderfully happy to now be in unimaginable beauty with his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Savior Jesus, free from the pain and sickness that has burdened him for so long. He was born May 6,1952 in New Somerset, Ohio to his parents Ernest “Ernie” Van Rawson and Marian Evelyn (Yocum) Rawson, both who have passed away in 1980 and 2006, respectively. He graduated from Stanton Local High School in 1971 and retired from Wheeling-Pitt Steel mill at the Mingo Plant. Bob was a lifelong member of the New Somerset Christian church, an avid fisherman, hunter, and very talented musician that could play just about any instrument. He, his wife and his children played in a Bluegrass/Gospel Band as the Rawson Family Band in many states throughout the 1990’s, as well as in several other bands later on. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his oldest brother Earnest “Boyd” Rawson in 1995, his MotherIn-Law Dona (Rowe) Champion and Brother-In-Law John W. Gersna both in 2007, sister Constance “Connie” (Rawson) Workman in 2014, Sister Francis “Kay” (Rawson) Porter in 2017, Father-In-Law Clarence “Del” Champion in 2019, and sons-in law Brady Cline and Jake Abrams in September and October 2021. He is survived by his wife, high school sweetheart, and best friend of 49 years “Cathy” Catherine Joan (Champion) Rawson whom he married August 31, 1972, his brother Victor “Vic” (Cheryl) Rawson, sister Kathy (JB) Workman both of New Somerset, OH, son Robert “Rob” Rawson of Nashville, TN, daughters Lisa Abrams of Lake Charles, LA and Heather (Josh “Hugo” Stock) Bias of Empire, Ohio; Grandchildren Christopher Wood of Toronto, OH, Elijah Cline of Toronto Ohio, Jeremiah Cline of Empire Ohio, Briar Stock of Empire, OH, Marian Cline of Empire, OH, and Mackenzi Stock of Empire, OH; great-grandchildren Nathan Wood of Wintersville, OH, Rilynn Wood of Follansbee, WV, Serenity Hartley of Weirton, WV and Noah McMillen of wintersville, OH. Though our hearts are heavy with sadness and will miss Bob tremendously, we rejoice in knowing that he is now praising God with all those that have passed before him and are in Heaven, free from pain and undoubtedly playing in Heaven’s bluegrass band.
