Russell John “Rusty” Payne, age 80 of Toronto passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville.
He was born February 22, 1940 in Steubenville the son of the late William and Mary (Bonacci) Payne.
Rusty had been a member of and had served as an altar boy at the St. Peters Roman Catholic Church of Steubenville; was a 1958 graduate of Steubenville High School; member of the Toronto American Legion Post #86 and the Steubenville Moose Club.
He retired from the Wheeling – Pittsburgh Steel Co. 80” steel mill in Mingo Junction. After his first retirement, he drove school bus for the Edison Local and Toronto school districts and was a volunteer lifetime coach for many school sports activities and was an avid bowler having belonged to the American Bowling Congress, loved to garden and had served his country in the U.S. Army.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Karen Lorraine (Monigold) Payne whom he married July 6, 1963; daughter, Sharon (David) Thompson of Toronto; sons, Russell W. “Rusty” Payne of Toronto and Larry (Rebecca) Payne of Steubenville and grandchildren, Amber and Haley Thompson, Jessica and Antonio Payne and Chris Graziani.
Due to the Covid pandemic, there will be a private family visitation and service for Rusty. A public memorial service celebrating the life of Rusty will be planed and announced at a later date.
Military Honors will be presented by the Toronto American Legion Chaplain.
Memorial contributions in memory of Rusty may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
