Betty Ann Monigold Thompson, age 81 of Steubenville, OH (Pleasant Hill) passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Life Line Hospital, Wintersville, OH surrounded by her loving family.
She was born December 22, 1934 in Steubenville, OH the daughter of the late Daniel A. and Evelyn Bessie (Rawson) Monigold.
Betty was a member of the Bell Chapel United Methodist Church; loved to bake, was famous for her deboned chicken recipe, icing filled cupcakes and homemade caramels. She shared her gift of cooking with everyone, especially those going through a difficult time or in need. She always remembered the birthdays of her loved ones. If it was your birthday you knew you could count on a card from her. She loved butterflies and the color blue. She shared 60 years of marriage with the love of her life, her husband Fred. She was the recipient of the Herald Star Community Star award in 2004. It was said she was the greatest giving person on earth; was a 1952 graduate of the Jefferson Union High School and had formerly served as manager of the former Yocum’s Grocery Store in Pleasant Hill, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jean Mossor and Ruth Rowe and a brother, Clifford “Bud” Monigold.
Betty is survived by her husband of 60 years Fred E. Thompson, Jr. whom she married April 28, 1956; sisters, Nancy (John) Vittek of Steubenville, OH and Grace Schmittauer of Athens, OH; brothers, Donald Monigold of Wintersville, OH, David (JoAnn) Monigold, Sr., Richard (Cathy) Monigold, Sr. and Thomas (Sandy) Monigold all of Steubenville, OH; she was the favorite loving aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours for Betty will be held 2-4 & 6-8 Monday, August 1st at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St. Toronto, OH.
A celebration service of Betty’s life will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, August 2nd at the  funeral home with Pastor Roger Wayne officiating. Entombment will follow at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH
If desired, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Betty, to carry on her tradition of giving, can be made to the Toronto Unit of the Salvation Army, 105 N. River Ave., Toronto, OH 43964
